Licensed asbestos removalists

A list of licenced asbestos removalists can be found here

https://www.safework.sa.gov.au/licence-and-registration/apply-renew/asbestos

There are two classes of asbestos removalists:

  • Class A asbestos removal licence:  the licence holder can remove friable asbestos and non-friable asbestos and asbestos contaminated dust or debris (ACD)
  • Class B asbestos removal licence: the licence holder can remove more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos and ACD associated with the removal of more than 10 square metres of non-friable asbestos.

Asbestos-containing materials can be either friable or non-friable. Friable asbestos is high risk. Friable asbestos can be crumbled, pulverised or reduced to a powder by hand pressure.

Non-friable asbestos is lower risk. It is mixed with cement or other hard bonding materials. Non-friable asbestos can become friable if damaged or old.

Find your nearest disposal facility

Asbestos waste must be taken to a licensed transfer station or depot. Check with your local council where the nearest is located or check here asbestos.sa.gov.au.

Asbestos waste must be double bagged using 200-micron thick polythene bags, tied and sealed for disposal.

Remember:

It is illegal to dispose of asbestos waste in domestic bins.

Do not dispose of asbestos during council 'hard rubbish' collections or dump waste illegally.
