There is a permanent memorial to asbestos victims – a reflection site where family or friends can sit & reflect whenever they please. Each leaf of the tree carries the name of someone who has passed away from asbestos disease.
Whyalla City Council assisted with funding for the steel tree and side wings. The AVA Whyalla branch also raised funds for the installation.
The Mount Laura Homestead is on Ekblom Street, Whyalla. The building was constructed as a homestead forming part of Mount Laura Station and continued as a sheep station for about thirty years. The museum grounds include the Gay Street cottage - built by the BHP company in 1914 for its employees.
If you have any concerns about asbestos please John Arthur at AVA's Whyalla branch.
